Certification and CECs

Exciting things are happening in the Central Florida Chapter of AHDI this spring! Students in the Health Information Management/Medical Transcription program have undertaken the AHDI challenge to get credentialed. Two of our students, Miriam Calvert-Navarro and Kammie Handly, both members of the CFC local chapter and of AHDI, are setting up a study review program. Professor Susan Dooley, CMT, FAAMT will be facilitating this effort. The review program will use the materials provided by AHDI through the Credentialing Cup Competition.

A presentation was made regarding the professional benefits of being credentialed, the Credentialing Challenge guidelines from AHDI, and a timeline for getting started. In addition the name voted on by the SCC members was announced. We are the CFC Conquerors!

Participants include students from Winter Park Tech, thanks to June Steding, Winter Park student liaison as well as recent graduates from the SCC program. Other participants include members from AHDI-CFC that are seeking this first step in the credentialing procedure. We have a total of 21 for the RMT review and 1 for the CMT review.

We will be meeting weekly, via the internet, using a web-assisted learning format. We have ordered self assessments and are breaking down the review materials into weekly plans. This should be a great opportunity for all of us to help each other. We are planning to begin our course of study mid May and will hold 10 sessions. Participants will all test prior to July 31st. There are prizes to be had in winning the competition, but the grand prize for most of us will be the networking opportunity and the knowledge gained.

Stay tuned for more updates!
